City Destroys Thousands of Illegal Liquor

The city administration destroyed 9,712 bottles of illegal alcoholic beverages seized in the Monas yard, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (12/4) morning.

This operation will be intensified to create a public order

It is done to enforce the law, maintain public order, and protect the public from the negative impacts of the circulation of illegal alcoholic beverages.

City Secretary, Marullah Matali stated the evidence destroyed is the result of a clean-up from early 2024 conducted by the ranks of the city administration, led by Satpol PP, with the support of the army and police.

"The destroyed bottles were found throughout Jakarta, including Seribu Islands. It has been through the decision of the district courts of each region," he expressed.

He explained they were seized from traders and stalls that did not have official permits. But. If its circulation was ignored, it would create an unconducive atmosphere in the community.

"This operation will be intensified to create a public order," he asserted.

He hoped that it could have a deterrent effect on the distributors. "Also create a safer and more orderly environment for Jakarta people," he hoped.

Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Satriadi Gunawan uttered it is aimed at protecting the public from the dangers of the circulation of illegal and adulterated alcoholic drinks, and is part of the city administration's commitment to an orderly, safe, and comfortable global city.

He added today's operation is based on public reports received through 13 official channels of the city administration and direct complaints. In addition, routine patrols with the army and police, especially before religious holidays, are a strategic step in monitoring the circulation of illegal liquor.

"Our target is illegal sellers and stalls. The strategy we implement involves consistent coaching, control, and law enforcement,' he stated.
